Whimsy and nostalgia will find a home on the Pier Village promenade this summer — and far into the future.

A handcrafted, wooden carousel — no fiberglass here — is expected to arrive in early summer, bringing with it shades of the days when the Long Branch boardwalk was populated with the rides and amusements that have come to define the Jersey shore.

Commissioned by Manhattan-based developer Extell Development Co., responsible for building The Lofts Pier Village, a new luxury oceanfront community on the shore, the carousel will be one-of-a-kind, featuring classic carousel horses adorned with splashes of sun and sea and kept company by a school of imaginative sea creatures.
